JC Jacobsen was a member of the building committee of the Botanical Garden and contributed large sums of money when the project ran short of funds in 1874.  He also paid for construction of the heating system and influenced the design of the greenhouses. His son Carl donated many bronze statues, including  Pallas Athena, Artemis, the Discus Thrower, Amazon, Athena and Myron, Narcissus and the Sandal Tier, which all contribute to Gardens’ mythical theme.
