The Vestindisk Pakhus in Toldbodgade, near the Royal Palace of Amalienborg, is home to a magnificent collection of plaster casts taken from statues and reliefs in museums, temples, churches and public places around the world.
There are casts of sculptures dating from antiquity through to the Renaissance, including Egyptian Kings and mythical beasts, Greek gods and human beings, Roman Emperors and scenes of battle and sacrifice. While Carl Jacobsen was the director of the museum, he, and the New Carlsberg Foundation, increased the collection by almost 1,000 casts.
